Midlands Mission Center Youth Caravan
Grades Completed: 9-12 Dates: June 6-15, 2026 Cost: $500 Theme - "We are One in the Spirit" Join us for a 12-day road trip adventure to explore the past, present and future of the Community of Christ. We start our journey by learning where we came from, by visiting Nauvoo, Kirtland, and the Sacred Grove in Palmyra, as we explore our church’s foundations. Next, we will explore who we are as a faith community today and what we, as disciples, can do to live the Enduring Principles as we move into the future. We will visit the National Mall and the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., Monticello in Virginia, the McClung Museum of Natural History & Culture in Knoxville, TN, the Nashville Zoo, and the Lorraine Motel Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. Finally, we will determine what my contribution to the sacred story is. We will end our journey with a Temple tour in Independence, MO, on our last day. |

Develop Disciples to Serve

Equip individuals for Christ’s Mission
Christian Education - Sunday School - Student Ministry
|
Community of Christ members and friends are encouraged to be lifelong learners. Through courses offered by the church, learners can grow in their leadership, spirituality, and personal development.
Disciples are called to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the scriptures so that they may ever increase in love for God, neighbor, and self, uphold the dignity and worth of all persons and faithfully follow the way of Jesus Christ. |
"Let the educational and community development endeavors of the church equip people of all ages to carry the ethics of Christ’s peace into all arenas of life. Prepare new generations of disciples to bring fresh vision to bear on the perplexing problems of poverty, disease, war, and environmental deterioration. Their contributions will be multiplied if their hearts are focused on God’s will for creation." D&C 163:4c
Disciples of Jesus Christ are sent into their schools, work places, neighborhoods, towns, and cities to share their witness and invitation, compassionate ministries and justice and peace. As more individuals receive education and training, many more vibrant witnesses will be sent to share Christ’s peace and embody and live the concerns and passion of Christ.
On Sunday morning, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, Topeka Community of Christ offers Discipleship Education (a.k.a. Sunday School or Student Ministry) for all ages. Our Deacon or Pastor will assist you in finding an appropriate class.
By denomination policy, all persons who engage with children's ministry must successfully complete the Community of Christ Child Protection program.
Worship Service Focus Moment for Youth
|
Our Sunday Worship Ministry usually includes a Children's Focus Moment, to assist our younger worshipers in understanding the morning message, how it might apply to them and to reflect on possible things they might do to incorporate this message into their every day lives.

Topeka Family & Community Activities
We value our connections and share a strong sense of trust in and belonging with one another; even if we never have met. There are so many ways to connect with our community. We not only come together for worship, but we look for ways to build relationships along our discipleship journey. We invite you to share with the Topeka Community of Christ congregation through FREE community building activities. The majority of these activities are specifically for children.
Children's Mission Prayer
Embracing the Spirit of the Children's Mission Prayer
Children possess a unique combination of innocence and curiosity, approaching the world with a sense of wonder that often inspires adults to see things from a fresh perspective. A beautiful expression of this spirit is captured in the simple yet profound Children's Mission Prayer.
This prayer not only encapsulates the purity of a child's faith but also serves as a reminder for all of us about the values we should strive to embody in our daily lives.
Seeking Purpose and Connection
The opening lines, "God, What are you doing today? Maybe I can help!" reflect a child’s desire to be part of something greater. This sense of purpose is a fundamental human need. It reminds us that no matter our age, we can seek to understand and contribute positively to the world around us. By asking how we can assist in divine plans, we open ourselves to opportunities for growth, service, and connection with others.

Strength and Gentleness
The prayer continues with the request to be "strong like a lion, gentle like a lamb." These contrasting images of strength and gentleness highlight the importance of balance. Strength without compassion can lead to aggression, while gentleness without strength might result in passivity. By aspiring to be both, we can navigate life's challenges with resilience and kindness, embodying a powerful yet considerate presence.

Courage and Compassion
"Make me caring and brave," the prayer implores. Courage and compassion are vital traits for creating change in the world. Courage empowers us to face adversity and stand up for what is right, while compassion ensures that our actions are guided by empathy and understanding. These qualities are essential in a world that often demands both action and sensitivity from those who wish to make a difference.

Spreading Love and Peace
The concluding aspiration, "to fill the world with your love and peace," is a universal goal transcending cultural and religious boundaries. Love and peace are the cornerstones of a harmonious society. By striving to embody these ideals, we contribute to a world where differences are celebrated, and conflicts are resolved through understanding and mutual respect.

A Call to Action
The Children's Mission Prayer is a call to action for people of all ages. It encourages us to look beyond ourselves, harness our strengths, and approach life with a compassionate heart. In doing so, we can create a ripple effect, spreading love and peace throughout our communities and beyond.
As we reflect on this prayer, let us ask ourselves how we encourage children and youth to be instruments of positive change in their own lives and the lives of others.
How can they be strong, gentle, caring, and brave today?
By embracing the values expressed in this prayer, they can help fill the world with the love and peace we all yearn for. Amen.
