What to Wear
Attending Sunday Worship can be a meaningful and uplifting experience, and feeling comfortable in your attire can help enhance that experience. Here are a few things to consider when deciding what to wear:
Casual attire is generally appropriate, but you may also see people dressed up in their "Sunday best." This can include dresses, suits, or other formal clothing.
If you prefer a more relaxed look, you can opt for jeans, a t-shirt, and sandals or sneakers. We request that you avoid clothing with offensive language or graphics.
Ultimately, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and able to focus on the worship experience. Don't worry too much about what others are wearing, and instead focus on your own personal style and preferences.

Worship Service Format
Because our Worship Services are planned by a variety of people and the service participants change from week to week, no two services will be exactly alike.
Because our Worship Services are planned by a variety of people and the service participants change from week to week, no two services will be exactly alike.
All will provide opportunity for you to share in music, scripture, prayers and challenging words of joy, hope, love and the peace of Jesus Christ.
Our scripture readings come from a variety of sources, including both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. We also draw on other religious texts such as the Book of Mormon and Doctrine & Covenants to provide a diverse and inclusive experience.
Our prayers are intended to be both personal and communal, allowing each individual to connect with their own sense of spirituality while also participating in a shared experience.
Our messages (sermons) are designed to be thought-provoking and inspiring, providing you with new insights and perspectives on your faith journey.
We follow the Revised Common Lectionary. Each week, we reflect on a passage from one of the Gospels and center our worship around it.

We Enter God’s Presence
through Worship Gathering to worship makes us aware of God’s abundant grace that is with us not only in worship but in each moment of living. Through worship and the sharing of sacraments, congregations become sacramental offerings for the blessing, healing, and peace of creation.
We explore and experience worship through varied styles of music, drama, scripture, preaching, prayers, sacred stories, meditation and sacraments.

When we gather for worship, we open ourselves up to experiencing the abundant grace of God. The act of coming together as a congregation allows us to share in the sacraments, which serve as a reminder of God's presence in our lives. As we partake in these sacraments, we become sacramental offerings for the blessing, healing, and peace of creation.
“Look especially to the sacraments to enrich the spiritual life of the body. Seek for greater understanding of my purposes in these sacred rites and prepare to receive a renewed confirmation of the presence of my Spirit in your experiences of worship.” D&C 158:11c The sacraments refresh, renew, and challenge us to continue on Christ’s mission, our mission, for the sake of all creation.
Through the sacraments, we discover the presence of God everywhere and realize that all life is sacred
Worship also provides us with a sense of community and connection. It allows us to come together and support one another, both in times of celebration and in times of hardship. Through worship, we are reminded of our shared values and our commitment to living a life that reflects those values.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20 NRSV Gathering to worship is a powerful and transformative experience that connects us to God's grace, to one another, and to the world around us. Through worship and the sharing of sacraments, we become agents of healing and peace, working towards a better future for all. We invite you to join with us.

Does Community of Christ use the Bible in it's worship, teaching and ministry?
With other Christians, we affirm the Bible as the foundational scripture for the church. In addition, Community of Christ uses the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants as scripture.
We do not use these sacred writings to replace the witness of the Bible or improve upon it, but because they confirm its message that Jesus Christ is the Living Word of God. We have heard Christ speak in all three books of scripture, and bear witness that he is “alive forever and ever”. Scripture’s authority is derived from the model of Christ, who came to be a servant Therefore, the authority of scripture is not the authority to oppress, control, or dominate. If Jesus came to serve, how much more should the books that point to him be treated as a servant of the saving purposes of God.

“It is not pleasing to God when any passage of scripture is used to diminish or oppress races, genders, or classes of human beings. Much physical and emotional violence has been done to some of God’s beloved children through the misuse of scripture. The church is called to confess and repent of such attitudes and practices.” D&C 163:7a-c Project Zion Podcast 562
Percolating on Faith: Biblical Literalism “The Bible tells us just what [God] wants us to know.” NOT!! Listen to this episode of Percolating on Faith to hear why, since the late 1700s, people have been arguing that, “if it’s written down, it must be true”… especially in relation to the Biblical text.
Find out why taking such a position can be dangerous … not to mention incorrect. Discover ways to approach scripture from an honest and healthy perspective so you don’t end up in a “literal” trap. |
Community of Christ Worship Music
Through our hymns we sing our faith, and our faith is formed by them. They are the heart-songs that boldly express what we believe and challenge us to grow by announcing new ways of understanding and responding to the Divine.
Project Zion Podcast 563 Cuppa Joe:
150 Years of Hymnody with Dick Clothier Music plays a critical role in our lives. From our ABCs to the books of the Bible, words set to music have helped us to learn, challenged us to grow, and taken us to unknown places. Hymnody is no different. Through the singing of our hymns, we have continued to build a foundation for our beliefs.
Listen in as host Brittany Mangelson sits down with hymn enthusiast and accomplished musician, Dick Clothier, to talk about the history and impact of hymns in the restoration tradition. Beginning with Emma’s 1836 hymnal and continuing on through the current Community of Christ Sings, Hymnody has been deeply ingrained in who we are. Who knows, after listening, you may be inspired to write a hymn of your own. |
While our hymn book contains many traditional restoration and Christian hymns; you will also find many new affirming inclusive hymns promoting diversity, justice and peace.
Many of the songs/hymns from our Community of Christ Sings hymnal have been recorded by the Beyond the Walls Choir and are available online.
All the videos listed are published under the standard YouTube license. You can use these videos on your online and in-person services and events as long as (1) no major edits are made and (2) the intended use is not for profit. Thank you for listening to the Beyond the Walls Choir and sharing our music!
Project Zion Podcast 386 What’s Brewing: Beyond the Walls Choir
